Show Summary
Premiering on 17th October, 2005, The Colbert Report is an Emmy Award and Peabody Award winning satirical TV show presented by Stephen Colbert (previously worked for The Daily Show). The Colbert Report is actually the spin off of The Daily Show and it takes on a humorous take on media and politics.
The show specifically singles out personality - driven political pundit programs for satire, especially the ‘The O’ Reilly Factor’ (Fox News), Scarborough Country and Hannity and Colmes. The concept of the show includes a fictional character anchor man who is named as Stephen Colbert. This fictional character is played by the real Stephen Colbert and is portrayed as a distortion of political pundits on television.
The show has been nominated for Emmys in 2006, 2007, 2008, getting nominated for four catagories each time. A couple of Satellite Awards and Television Critics Association Awards have also been won by The Colbert Report. On the show, Colbert popularized the word “truthiness” and this term was chosen in 2006 by dictionary publisher Merriam - Webster as the Word of the Year.
The show has also established itself into popular culture in several ways. Colbert asked the public to vote for him, to name a bridge in Hungary after him. Not surprisingly he won the first round with a whooping 17,231,724 votes.

In most of the episodes of The Colbert Report, there are number of inveterate elements of note. Like many episodes will have “The Word” of the day, which would generally be in accordance with the theme of the episode. A studio guest always appears in the concluding part of the episode. The procedure of sequences is also standard. Every episode starts with a summary of the episode’s contents, and then comes the introduction phrase, and the theme music. The introductory phrase would most of the time have the truth word inserted in it. Of course there are certain exceptions to these too.
Running in its fifth season, the show has completed more then five hundred episodes.
